The National Book Awards 2015

National Book Critics Circle Awards including the inaugural John Leonard Prize (2014)

The 2014/15 Finalists for The National Book Critics Circle Awards were announced on January 19th 2015

• The National Endowment for the Arts

announced, in April 2014, nearly a thousand grants totalling roughly $75 million for the second half of their fiscal year

Literature claimed a small slice, with 56 grants comprising $1.42 million. Among the larger recipients, receiving grants of between $30,000 and $90,000, are:
• 826 National Association of Writers & Writing Programs
• Council of Literary Magazines and Presses
• Grub Street
• The Loft Literary Center
• PEN American Center
• PEN/Faulkner
• Poets and Writers and Small Press Distribution

The New York Public Libraries'
15th Annual Young Lions Fiction Award

was in 2015. This award started in 2001, is judged each Spring and the winner receives a $10,000 prize. Entrants must be under 35 years of age, and entries are in the form of a short story

The O. Henry Prize Stories

is widely regarded as the most prestigious award for short fiction. It is an annual collection of the year's twenty best stories published in American and Canadian magazines, written in English. Hear some previous winners read their entries

• The Pritzker Prize for Military Writing

Antony Beevor has won the Pritzker Literature Prize for lifetime achievement in Military Writing. He will receive the $100,000 prize at an awards ceremony on November 8

• Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award

• Thurber Prize for American Humor

30th September: In a ceremony at Carolines on Broadway in New York City it was announced that John Kenney had won the 2014 Thurber Prize for Truth in Advertising

15th July 2014: The finalists for the 2014 Prize for American Humor have been announced

The winner will be named at a ceremony at Carolines on Broadway in New York City on September 30

The 2014 finalists were:

Liza Donnelly, Women on Men Narrative Library)
John Kenney, Truth in Advertising (Touchstone)
Reading at Independent Greenlight Bookstore on 23rd January 2014
